Beschreibung
Linking approaches from memory studies, religious history, literary studies, and art history, a panel organised by Franziska Metzger and Dimiter Daphinoff at the Annual Conference of the European Academy of Religion at the University of St Andrews in June 2023, will analyse on the one hand how narratives and iconographic codes in literature and art are appropriated and therein (radically) transformed by religious agents, while it will explore on the other hand how religious narrations, discourses and iconographic practices are reimagined and used – in literature, art and material culture – up to radical deconstruction in religious and non-religious contexts. The panel with participants from Austria, the US and Switzerland from the disciplines of history, German and English Literature, and Religious Studies and Art History will be expanded to a book project for the publication series “Spaces of Memory. History – Literature – Art” (eds. Dimiter Daphinoff/Franziska Metzger).
